Why do I keep spilling coffee?
Good day, Amazing-One-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Stopped,
Most mornings, I do some reading while drinking my coffee. That's my set-up in the photo above.
I drink my coffee a half cup at a time.
I learned this from Patt Lilly at the St. Joseph Chamber. Patt drinks his coffee by the half cup, because then he never has to drink cold coffee. (Smart.) Patt, Natalie, Kristi, Kristie, and I drank a LOT of coffee together working on Imagine St. Joseph.
At home, I refill my coffee cup from a large thermos.
Sometimes, I dribble coffee and make a mess.
WHY DO I DRIBBLE COFFEE WHEN THE GOAL IS SO SIMPLE?
This morning as I was cleaning up the coffee I'd spilled, I realized two things:
I wasn't paying attention when I poured
I hesitated. As I started pouring, I thought, "Don't spill!"...and you know the rest.
I SHOULD KNOW BETTER, RIGHT?
Making messes is part of learning, and part of being a change agent. What we learn from making our messes is where the magic is.
Today, I'm committing to making fewer messes. I vow to pay better attention and to take decisive action.
What about you? What have your messes taught you?
PS In addition to the hot coffee pro-tip, Patt sent his team to Futurist Camp. Be like Patt, and save $400 on tuition when you register by March 9.
